Everything you need is provided - wetsuits, boards, leashes and expert instructors. They'll start by teaching you the basics of ocean safety and surfing etiquette, then move onto the good stuff. Find out how to keep your weight where the board has most volume, and how to pop up onto your feet when the wave picks you up. It's common for first-timers to stand, and after that it's all about perfecting your skills...
If you get good quick, or you've surfed before, ask your instructor for some intermediate tips. You could learn to turn, carve the face of the wave and even pull off a smooth cutback. Radical!
Surfing is a mysterious art, and one of the coolest things you can do to pick up girls. Show off your smooth style in the water, and the wetsuit-clad lovelies in the line-up might just come and find you in the club!
You can't come on a stag weekend to Newquay without getting in the water. That would be like eating a fish but no chips. Or having a glass, but no beer! Suit up, paddle out and get on it.
