Absinthe isn't like other drinks. It's made from wormwood, which contains a naturally-occurring compound called thujone. Thujone is thought to have psychoactive properties, and if you drink enough of it you'll see why! There's a reason Vincent van Gogh went crazy and cut off his own ear, and it's right there in the burning green liquid you're about to chuck down your throat.
