Wednesday Wisdom How To Get A Girlfriend

With yesterday being Valentine's Day, for those without a loved one, it emphasises the point - more than on any other day - that you are single.

Of course, not every singleton is bothered about being in a relationship, but we know that there are those who are. Which is why for this week's Wednesday Wisdom, we are offering advice on how to get a girlfriend in 2017.

Even if this isn't applicable to yourself, you may know a lonely heart looking for love who could use the help.

Tinder

If you're single and not on Tinder, then you are one of very few. The mobile dating app has become the go-to place for anyone looking for a companion, whether casual or serious.

The reason people use Tinder is because of its ease. You don't have to leave the comfort of your own bedroom, and a simple “swipe right” could put you in line to meet the girl of your dreams.

The downside of Tinder is its legitimacy. It's common for people to make themselves out to be something they're not on their profile; beware of people with no full body shots! Also, this is mainly used for casual sex, so if you're looking for a long-term relationship, you may be best looking elsewhere.

Other dating apps

For those looking for something more long-term, you may find other dating apps and websites more useful in your search.

Alternatives will delve a little deeper into the profile of individuals and attempt to match you with people of similar age and interests.

At least with this you have less chance of going on a date with someone you have absolutely nothing in common with. There can be few things more awkward than silence on a first date, with both of you looking at your watches for when the pain will be over.

If the statistics on the adverts are true, more and more people are getting together through this dating medium. The next one could be you.

Go on that date

If you've been single for any length of time, it's likely that you will have had friends or family pointing you in the direction of someone that you should go on a date with.

It's natural to find the idea of something so forced cringe worthy, but perhaps it's time to re-evaluate your stance on the idea. What have you got to lose?

After so long as a single man, you should be willing to try anything. And, at least if a mutual friend has set you up, you always have that as a fall-back if conversation dries up!

Go out

Sometimes, it's best to ignore all the modern day techniques of finding a partner and go back to basics. The way to do that is to go out on a night out with the lads.

The shackles are off, your inhibitions are lowered, giving you the confidence to speak to anyone who takes your fancy. It's the same both ways, so conversation will flow much better and there's not the pressure that a first date brings.

Meet a girl like this, and then you will have plenty to talk about when you do something more formal.

Oh and don't forget to come back to us when you find the girl of your dreams and need a stag weekend organising…
