London Turbo Cricket

Cricket just got a reboot

Some smart guys with a passion for the sport fancied shaking things up a bit, so they mixed up the rules, pressed the fast-forward button and created London Turbo Cricket. It's 6 players instead of the usual 11. The ball is made of softer stuff than cork. The pitch is over half the size so you don't need binoculars to spot the ball. The whole thing plays out in an hour, which is great if you fancy a spot of cricket for a stag party but don't have time for a one-day match.

"To stay in, you've got to not get out" - Geoff Boycott

Wise words from the great man. The rules are a bit different for London Turbo Cricket, though. A batsman can come back because they get unlimited turns. Every man on each team bowls. It makes for very interesting play and you'll get plenty of laughs out of it too. Find out who throws like a girl. Which one of your mates is a dropper? Who's a budding Ricky Ponting and who can't hit a ball to save his life?

You're planning a stag party in London, the home of English cricket. The last test match of the season is traditionally played at The Oval in Kennington. It really would be rude not to do the cricket thing. You don't need to don cricket whites and wear guards. No protection needed. The instructors will kit you out with team headbands and bibs when you get there. They provide the equipment, get everything ready and explain the rules. You get out there and have some fun.

In a nutshell:

  • Express cricket with wild cards and fast overs
  • Organised event that lasts 1 hour
  • Instructor
  • Play in teams of 6
  • Cricket equipment is provided
