Local pubs could prove central to stag parties in Bristol

Stag parties in Bristol who decide to hold their celebrations in the city to sample some of the local cider could be encouraged to hear new plans by the government.

Proposals put forward by Communities and Local Government have revealed funding to help prevent pub closures in the region.

Almost 40 pubs across the UK close every week. But with local and friendly pubs central to many stag parties in Bristol, extra effort to save such establishments from closing could be welcomed.

This may especially be the case after the Campaign for Real Ale's (Camra's) Bristol and District branch announced that the Seven Stars on Thomas Lane has been voted Pub of the Year 2010 by the organisation.

In second place is the Portcullis, on Wellington Terrace.

Commenting on the government's plans, pubs minister John Healey said: "We need and can do more to support our pubs which can be at the heart of a local community."
