Surfing stag parties could head to Newquay
A surfing stag party in Newquay could prove evermore popular if plans for a surf reef get back on track.
Newquay stag weekends would certainly benefit from a revival if the £6 million scheme goes ahead.
The scheme was first raised in 2001 with the proposed site just off Tolcarne Beach, but after four years of negotiation the project was at a standstill, the Cornish Guardian reports.
Stuart Keough, who runs Newquay Surf Centre, believes that the project should be revisited.
"The best thing we can do to move the town forward is to reignite the surf reef project. This could bring substantial benefits", said Mr Keough.
Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Keough highlighted the success of the Bournemouth reef in bringing benefits to the whole area.
However, he added that the actual standard of surfing in Bournemouth had not improved dramatically, although he pointed out Newquay's groundswell would ensure a successful reef.
Newquay is considered the surf capital of the UK, with Fistral Beach, Tolcarne, Watergate Bay and Lusty Glaze among the most notable surfing spots.
