An explosive time on a stag weekend in Edinburgh

A stag weekend in Edinburgh could be given an explosive touch as a firework display is among the planned elements for the Homecoming Scotland 2009 celebrations.

Edinburgh Tourist Board explains that Sunday, November 29th, marks the culmination of the festival, with events scheduled throughout the day.

For local residents, the high point could be the arrival of the Saltire, or St Andrew's Cross, which is due to be escorted to St Mary's Kirk, Haddington.

This is to be followed by it being carried by torchlight to the Mercat Cross in the ancient high street of Haddington.

Edinburgh Tourist Board says that the event marks the homecoming of the flag, which was 'born' in East Lothian in 832 AD.

For those on a stag weekend in Edinburgh though, the evening concert on the Sunday or the previous night's firework display could be among the high points.

Homecoming Scotland project director Marie Christie says: "Homecoming Scotland 2009 has been a very special year for Scotland and the finale celebrations across the country are a fantastic way to end this momentous year."
