Stag groups "may want to forget Riga and party at home"

The mayor of Riga has revealed plans to crack down on the number of British stag party groups heading to the Latvian capital, which may encourage lads to go on a stag party in Newcastle or a stag weekend in Cardiff instead.

Speaking in an interview with Rigas Laiks, Nils Usakovs says the authorities want to attract different kinds of tourists to the city and are concerned that rowdy groups of boys could put them off.

It means lads planning to celebrate their mate's last days of freedom may want to organise a Sheffield stag weekend, a stag weekend in Edinburgh or a stag party in Bristol.

Among the measures the city is considering introducing are tourism police to monitor rowdy behaviour.

In other news, those who do decide to go on a stag night in Sheffield will be able to enjoy the delights of a new strip club.

The Star reports that Cheetah's will opening on what used to be the Bar Matrix/Nylon site.
