Blackpool stag weekend ideal for comedy fans
Fans of comedy will want to head to the north for a Blackpool stag weekend as the city unveils it Comedy Carpet later this year.
The £2 million walkway will be a little like the Hollywood footprints and have the greatest names and catchphrases from comedy inlaid in granite, reports the Blackpool Gazette.
Council chiefs say the carpet, which connects the Tower with the Tower Festival Headland, may attract as many visitors as the Angel of the North, including those on Blackpool stag weekends.
Doug Garrett, chief executive of Blackpool's regeneration company ReBlackpool, told the newspaper: "The Comedy Carpet creates a waterfront with elements of great interest and it will differentiate Blackpool from other seaside resorts."
Construction of the carpet is set to begin later this year, alongside structural work to build the £14 million Tower Festival Headland, which will provide performing space which can accommodate up to 20,000 people.
Blackpool was recently described as "bold, buzzing and barmy" by Rosalind Reason, writing for the Daily Mail.
